how to have a social life

Thanks to Duncan Hines for sponsoring my writing. There’s no limit to the baking possibilities, so grab your favorite Duncan Hines mix and Comstock or Wilderness fruit fillings and Bake On! www.duncanhines.com.

When you have kids life completely changes when it comes to having “Me” time… especially when it involves going out with friends. It’s just not as easy when you have a screaming baby, clingy toddler or a long day of after school activities. With the holidays around the corner it’s even more crucial you make time for yourself before you consider strangling yourself with wrapping paper.

Life during the holidays is busy and stressful. Sometimes you don’t even have the energy to go out with the girls.

What is the solution?

Girl’s Night IN!

If you can’t go out to the party then bring the party to you! Can’t get a sitter? Then let the kids have their own fun while you have yours.

I have hosted dozens of Girl’s Nights or parties with friends where the kids have the playroom to tear up, watch movies and I’ll organize activities and crafts for them while the adults enjoy our time together.

But what about decorations? Fancy place settings!? Well, I honestly don’t put on a lot of froo-ha! Um, I don’t even know exactlywhat that word means! Martha Stewart would call me a slacker.

When it comes down to it all you need for a great Girls Night In is fun and stress free times! Here are some ideas for themes:

Delicious Dessert Night: Get out those favorite recipes or try some new ones! Have everyone bring a dish or bake together.

Movie Marathon: Do you have a list of movies you “need to watch” or a show you want to catch up on? Make a regular thing of it to get your friends together and check off that Movie List.

Wine and Pairing Party: If it wasn’t for my friends who actually know what they are talking about when it comes to wines I would be clueless. Even if you don’t know what goes with what I’m sure your friends can figure it out… there is also the wonders of Google!

Video Gaming with the Girls: Want to change it up a bit? Get your geeky gaming on with your friends! Bust out some video games, ask your friends to bring their favorites or even rent some games! I have always been happy with GameFly for Video Game rentals by mail. I personally recommend Just Dance games to really get the fun going.

Crafting Chicks: Have a bunch of projects that you need to get done? Well, organize a crafting night with the gals. If I want to learn something new (like crocheting) then I invite a couple friends and one who is an expert and she will teach us. BTW, I am planning this right now and looking forward to it!

Board Game Night: These are always fun… just remember to keep everyone’s competitive nature in check and always have the rules set BEFORE you start the game! Have fun… even if someone takes all your money when you land on Park Avenue.

Hire a Pro: Want to get a massage? What about someone to teach you self defense? Yoga? Cook? Belly Dancing? The possibilities are endless! You can hire an instructor, everyone splits the cost and enjoy a night of instruction and/or spoiling! So many possibilities!

We all need quality time with our friends so we don’t lose our minds. This is something that took me a long time to realize. We must remember to make ourselves happy even when it seems impossible to make the time for the fun! So get your calendars out, make some time and have some laughs! Cheers everyone!
